2009 CUSTOM HARDTAIL CHOPPER – S&S SHOVELHEAD-STYLE V-TWIN – DNA SPRINGER
This 2009 custom hardtail is a genuine one-off build combining traditional Shovelhead character, a rigid old-school chassis, premium mechanical components, distinctive craftsmanship, and a purposeful raw-metal finish.
The motorcycle’s story began with the unusual brass fuel cap that its owner discovered while attending Daytona Bike Week. He purchased the cap and subsequently designed the entire motorcycle around it. The owner selected every component, mocked up the build, and then entrusted final assembly to a professional shop with which he had a longstanding relationship.
At its center is a seller-identified S&S Shovelhead-style V-twin. The engine cases visibly carry S&S Super Stock markings and are complemented by polished rocker-box covers, red ignition wires, a Milwaukee Iron air-cleaner cover, a remote-mounted oil filter, and a cylindrical aluminum oil tank.
Power is transferred through an exposed primary with an Ultima-branded belt and open clutch assembly, followed by a chain final drive. A custom raw-steel exhaust system with flared brass-finished tips complements the bike’s intentionally mechanical, stripped-down appearance.
The rigid hardtail frame is paired with a sprung solo saddle and a DNA springer front end. Unlike many minimalist hardtail builds, this motorcycle retains a front disc brake, with the owner identifying the front brake hardware as the matching DNA system. A large drilled rear rotor and polished flame-detailed caliper provide rear braking.
The custom finish is one of the motorcycle’s defining features. Brilliant blue bass-boat-style metalflake is laid over contrasting black panels, with extensive gold-leaf pinstriping and flowing tribal-flame artwork. The matching shortened rear fender continues the blue metalflake, black, and gold theme. The finished bodywork is contrasted by a raw-steel frame and exhaust with naturally developed patina.
The custom handlebars and specialized bracket work are attributed by the owner to noted motorcycle builder Walt Siegl. Additional cockpit details include brass-toned riser hardware, red metalflake grips, compact round mirrors, and a small springer-mounted speedometer.

MILEAGE:
The speedometer currently displays approximately 1,116.4 miles. However, the owner states that this gauge was installed primarily to monitor mileage between fuel stops. Accordingly, the reading should be treated as indicated mileage only and not represented as verified total chassis or engine mileage without supporting documentation.
CONDITION AND OWNER DISCLOSURES:
The raw-steel frame, exhaust, drive chain, and selected hardware display visible surface oxidation and patina. This appearance contributes to the motorcycle’s traditional stripped-down character, but the buyer should review the photographs and inspect the motorcycle personally.
The motorcycle has been stored for an extended period and should receive a fresh oil change, drive-chain service, and general mechanical inspection before regular operation.
The owner reports that after the motorcycle sits for several weeks, oil may migrate into the engine sump and discharge from the breather during initial startup. He recommends placing a catch pan beneath the motorcycle, allowing it to clear, and checking the oil level before riding.
The motorcycle is wired for a horn, but a horn is not currently installed. As a rigid-frame motorcycle with an exposed primary and minimalist equipment, it is best suited to an experienced rider who understands the characteristics of a traditional custom hardtail.
Built as a character-rich show-and-cruise motorcycle rather than a high-speed touring machine, this hardtail offers genuine S&S components, DNA springer hardware, extensive custom fabrication, memorable paintwork, and a personal build story that cannot be duplicated.
